More Awareness, Fewer Accidents and... Less Trouble!

The more attention given to training and instructing construction workers, the smaller the chances of accidents, damage to equipment and property, and more importantly - bodily and psychological injuries.

While in permanent workplaces, such as factories that day after day and year after year remain in the same building, with the same work environment familiar to the worker (and thereby their alertness is directed to known and familiar risks) - construction sites are a dynamic work environment that changes from day to day, sometimes even from hour to hour.

The risk system at a construction site is, as mentioned, dynamic and intensifying, and there are two main types of risks:

✔ 'Regular' risks such as working at height, concrete casting, crane work, etc.

✔ 'Enhanced' risks resulting from performing two works with 'regular' risk, where the combination of both elevates the risk level to an 'enhanced' risk.

In light of all these, the importance of training and instruction for construction workers emerges, particularly the need for conducting safety training and refreshing rules, which should be conducted frequently and sometimes more often than in a permanent and regular workplace. Sometimes, training or safety refresher courses must be held daily in light of rapid changes at a particular construction site, or a change in the worker's assigned role.

And there are legal requirements:

Safety training for working at height, for example, is required by law once every two years. However, safety training for height at a construction site is not the same as safety training for height at a factory. Hence the importance of providing appropriate safety training with every change at the construction site. It should be remembered, a construction site may transform within months from a deep pit in the ground to a building tens of meters high, and accordingly, the types of risks and their intensity change. Therefore, it is highly recommended that every worker receive safety training immediately upon starting work at a new site, even if a month earlier they received safety training at another construction site. The worker must be aware of the risks in their current work environment!

Required safety training:

  • Every worker on their first day at work will receive safety training for a new worker - general safety training.

  • Every worker will receive in writing on their first day at work - in a language they understand - a summary of information about the risks existing at their workstation and will receive additional training at least once a year.

  • Beyond standard safety training, if a worker needs to work at height for example, they will additionally receive safety training for working at height.

What is the connection between training and instructing construction workers - to an insurance agency?

First, in our view, it's better to do everything to prevent accidents as much as possible. The injured person and their family begin after the injury a long and sometimes complex recovery process. The entire normal life course of the injured person and their family is disrupted. In case of loss of life - every word is unnecessary. There is no substitute or adequate compensation for lives cut short or children who need to continue their lives without the family father.

Beyond the personal/human aspect, the sorrow and pain, one must remember: that for the word accident - there is a complementary word: damage. For example, in an accident with a seriously injured person, not to mention a fatal accident (in the construction industry about 50 workers are killed every year), the immediate result will be: work stoppage and cessation of activity at the site. Heavy damage by any account.

We acquired our position as the leading insurance agency in the construction industry thanks to many exclusive advantages, and one of the most prominent is the comprehensive view of the entire project and its implications both in the insurance aspect and in the aspect of its execution processes in the field and even in the safety issue.
